Abandoned Building
Windows are the first to go
because rocks enjoy the impact,
the crack before the burst through,
shards crashing on floor boards
and scattering multiple reflections
of the rock lying like a mouse
in the corner awaiting safety
to venture across the building
but sensing the impending barrage
of other missile rocks hitting
targets of other glass windows
now staring out jack-o’-lantern eyes
when the candle expires.
